Marilyn Yu is one of San Francisco’s premier genre-busting artists. For over twenty years Yu has interwoven media, ideas and people in her creations. Currently she runs a space for creative people to work and collaborate together called SHARED. It is based in the belief that together we can create greater things than we could individually or in isolation.
Her newest venture combines her new love of motorcycles with her enduring love of fashion. She is offering custom scooter/motorcycle jackets for women that have both style and safety. Plutonium Moto will be launching soon.
Yu’s other works include creating the legend of Eva, a journey of introspection, self-determination, and compassion. There are two books that tell Eva’s story: “Relations that Suck: The Story of Eva and Dries”, a photo book for adults that bridges the worlds of fine art, fashion, and fiction, and “La Femme Fatale”, a story and a tool for self-exploration in the format of deck of cards. By challenging the stagnant ideas of the dominant belief systems, Yu aims to empower people to take control of their thoughts instead of letting thoughts control them.
Additionally, she was a pioneer in introducing sustainability to high fashion with her award-winning, hemp-based clothing line Plutonium Clothing. She was a versatile management professional with over a dozen years operational experience at mission-based organizations in both healthy and distressed financial and funding environments.
An award-winning clothing designer, artist, and author, Yu has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley.
