ARTWALK
The Downtown LA ArtWalk is a sign of the progress LA has made in revitalizing Downtown. One night a month the usually deserted streets of Downtown are flooded with people from 6pm and into the wee hours of the morning. The galleries, bars, and restaurants are open late and there’s even a night market in one of the parking lots. The focus is not necessarily on the art, as in gallery walks in other cities, but that’s ok. The Artwalk is a significant achievement. In a city where spontaneous personal interaction is rare and where life happens mostly in private spaces, an opportunity to stroll down some vibrant streets filled with strangers is a treat.

BOOK SOUP
Book Soup is a friendly, cozy space with an amazing selection of books, magazines, newspapers, and basically anything you can read. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. A small corner of the store is set up for readings — literally a corner of the store. Seats are arranged in two columns at a right angle because the reader is in a corner of the store.
As in other stops along the tour, I met some really nice people and had a great time in LA. Thank you to everyone who hosted me and came to see me. I’m looking forward to touring again.
