La Femme Fatale Video
After making a story with still photographs for Relations That Suck I got a lot of suggestions to try moving pictures. This is my first moving picture project. I couldn’t have done it without the expertise and guidance of film-maker Matthew Abaya. It’s about one of the cards in La Femme Fatale as Eva builds a sanctuary amidst the tumult of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast in the mid 1800’s. Let us know what you think.
Directed: Matthew Abaya
Produced: Marilyn Yu & Matthew Abaya
Cast
Jessica Knecht as Eva
Jaclyn Kate as the Prostitute
Alan Becker as the Brothel Patron
“Boots” – the Snake
Egg Creatures as Themselves
Director of Photography: Francis Novero

First Camera/Lighting: Angelo Ibañez
Hair & Make-up: Christal Saville
Production Assistants: Frank Flores & Robert Bordas-Flores

Pecha Kucha – Monday 21 March 2011
Monday 21 March 2011
330 Ritch St in SOMA.
7-10 pm
San Francisco’s 42th Pecha Kucha event was memorable with 207 attendees and over $1500 donated to help Japan’s relief effort. There were artists, internet entrepreneurs, architects, exhibit designers, branding professionals, and more. Thank you to everyone who came to see me talk about How To Create or Customize a Religion.
Presenter list:
* Marilyn Yu
* David Albertson
* Michael DiTullo
* Mila Zelkha
* Joe Gebbia
* Monica Martinez
* Eric Sabee
* Jesse Herzog
* Vik Duggal
* Jesse Taggert
* Paul Jamptgaard
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of conversation (“chit chatâ€), it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

Lending Library and Book Clubs
I am creating a lending set of Relations That Suck and La Femme Fatale to lend to book clubs. I am interested in hearing what people think of the books and participating in discussions about them. If you are a part of a book club or know of any that would be interested in reading one or both of the books, please let me know.

Installation at "Celebrate! San Franciscoâ„¢"
September 9 – October 9
Mission Cultural Center
2868 Mission Street, San Francisco CA 94110
Solitaire: An intimate glimpse of Eva’s inner world and personal treasures.
Eva is a contemporary heroine created by Marilyn Yu with a team of creative professionals. She is a unique product of San Francisco’s creative and collaborative environment. Yu is celebrating San Francisco as a place that facilitates people of different backgrounds to mix and experiment, a place where anyone can build community, and a place not afraid of the unknown. San Francisco’s products inspire others to innovate as well. So far Eva has inspired a song by the local band Laguna Sunrise and the Fall collection of local jewelry design company Viv&Ingrid.
Celebrate! San Franciscoâ„¢ is a pilot project that will launch in San Francisco at the Mission Cultural Center focusing on two very simple questions: How are locals celebrating the human experience given present circumstances; and, what transformations are taking place in local communities/industries that would best serve a larger audience? By meaningfully engaging the dynamic talent from the diverse creative industries in this city, we hope gallery visitors will have greater cause to celebrate the life and culture of San Francisco.
